For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)
God is the creator and ruler of the world. He created man to enjoy a perfect relationship with himself, and to live as rulers under him. Man sinned against God by rejecting him and trying to rule the world on his own. Because God is holy and perfectly just, he cannot allow sin to go unpunished. The punishment for such rebellion is death and judgment in hell.
In his mercy, God provided another way for man to be made right with himself. God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save man. Jesus lived in perfect submission to God's rule, and then died in the place of sinners, providing forgiveness through his perfect sacrifice.
God raised Jesus from the dead, forever defeating sin and death. He now reigns as the ruler of all things, and will one day return to bring about final judgment. To reject God and attempt to run life on our own will result in death and judgment. To receive Jesus as the true ruler, and to rely on his death and resurrection, will result in forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.
